OpenAI has banned accounts associated with the STORM-2035 operation, believed to be linked to Iran. This operation utilized AI, specifically ChatGPT, to generate influence content in English and Spanish concerning politics in the US, UK, Ireland, and Venezuela.

The recidivist actor prompted ChatGPT in Persian, producing short comments that were then posted on X by seemingly inauthentic accounts posing as local residents. These accounts exclusively shared content generated by the operation, often featuring obscured profile pictures, some appearing to be copied from the internet. Unlike previous activity, this operation focused solely on X and appeared to keep different workstreams separate.

The generated comments covered topics such as Latino rights, Scottish independence, Irish reunification, Venezuela and Cuba, Palestinian rights, and Iran's geopolitical influence. While typical tweets received limited engagement, OpenAI assessed the impact as Category 1, indicating minimal amplification by real users.
