WireGuard Windows Update Fixes Bugs, Drops Legacy Support

WireGuard has released a major Windows update after resolving a Microsoft signing issue that temporarily blocked their driver submission. Jason Donenfeld announced the release of updated versions for both the kernel driver (WireGuardNT) and the user interface (WireGuard for Windows), marking the first significant update in years.

This release focuses heavily on accumulated bug fixes and performance improvements rather than new features. The team has streamlined the codebase by dropping decades of compatibility hacks and moving to a more modern minimum Windows version. Updates include toolchain improvements across the board, from the EWDK driver development kit to the Go-based main UI.

The signing suspension, which Donenfeld initially discussed on Hacker News and Twitter, was resolved quickly after Microsoft became aware of the situation. The update is available through the built-in updater or direct download, with support extending back to Windows 10 1507 Build 10240.
