Stripe has reportedly finalized a deal to acquire OpenRouter, an AI gateway startup, for over $7 billion, according to a Bloomberg report. OpenRouter enables customers to choose from various AI models based on their specific needs and budget constraints. The company previously announced a $113 million Series B funding round in May, at a valuation of $1.3 billion, with investors including Sequoia, Andreessen Horowitz, Menlo Ventures, and Alphabet's Capital G.

At the time of its funding, OpenRouter CEO Alex Atallah described the company as the 'equivalent of Stripe for AI,' emphasizing its role as a single access point for diverse AI systems while preventing vendor lock-in. The startup also claimed to serve 8 million global users and provide access to more than 400 AI models.

The Wall Street Journal reported last month that Stripe and OpenRouter were in acquisition talks. Bloomberg now confirms those discussions have resulted in a deal valued at more than $7 billion. A Stripe spokesperson told TechCrunch that the company does not comment on rumors or speculation.
