Sam Altman's World Partners with Tinder and Zoom for Eye Scans

Sam Altman's biometric authentication company World has announced major partnerships with Tinder and Zoom to implement eyeball-scanning verification systems. The company's orb device, which scans users' irises to prove they're human, will now be deployed across two of the internet's largest platforms. Tinder users who submit to the scan will receive a verified human badge and five free profile boosts.

World has been quietly testing this technology with Tinder in Japan, where the pilot apparently succeeded enough to warrant a global rollout. The dating app will require users to visit physical locations with World's proprietary orb device for iris scanning. Zoom is taking a different approach, integrating World ID Deep Face technology that cross-references facial images taken during orb verification with real-time video feeds to display a "Verified Human" badge during calls.

World is also pitching its technology as a solution to ticket scalping, announcing Concert Kit software that requires biometric scans for ticket purchases. The company faces significant challenges scaling this infrastructure, with only 18 million verified users so far and unclear plans for deploying the 7,500 orbs promised last year. Despite criticism over exploitative cryptocurrency schemes and privacy concerns, World's powerful partners could normalize invasive biometric verification across essential digital services.
