RustDesk has announced a significant advancement in Linux remote desktop capabilities, now offering true unattended remote access on Wayland. This feature allows users to connect to a remote machine without requiring someone to physically present to approve each session. The new build also supports multi-monitor setups, enabling connections even after a reboot or from the login screen.

This development addresses a long-standing challenge in Wayland remote desktop support. Currently, other major remote desktop solutions have limitations; AnyDesk requires Xorg for Linux sessions, and TeamViewer's Wayland support is considered experimental. RustDesk's preview build is initially available for x86_64 Debian/Ubuntu-based systems.

RustDesk plans to expand this unattended Wayland access to more Linux distributions like Fedora and Arch Linux, integrating it into standard releases once the implementation is stable. They are seeking real-world testing from users, particularly those with Wayland and multi-monitor configurations, to refine the feature.
