M5 Pro VM Boot Issue: Bridged Network Mode Fails

Hacker News •
×

Users with Apple M5 Pro machines are encountering a critical issue where virtual machines (VMs) fail to boot when the network mode is set to 'Bridged'. This problem prevents the VM from starting, with the application freezing on the loading screen immediately after initiating the boot process.

The issue was reported by a user testing the latest `ubuntu-24.04.4-live-server-arm64.iso` on mac OS Version: 26.3.1. While the VM boots successfully with network modes set to 'Host Only' or 'Extended', the 'Bridged' mode renders the VM unbootable.

The configuration details provided include UTM Version 4.7.5 (118) and the affected hardware as an M5 Pro chip. Unfortunately, the problem does not generate a crash log, nor does it reach a point where a debug log can be exported. A configuration file (`config.plist.zip`) has been shared for further investigation.
