Donald E. Knuth's seminal series, The Art of Computer Programming (TAOCP), is now available in authorized PDF e-book formats. These digital versions offer enhanced features, including search functionality and thousands of clickable cross-references linking exercises to answers, index entries to text, and text to tables.

Knuth strongly advises against non-PDF e-book versions, such as Kindle editions, citing their poor quality and mathematical inaccuracies. He states that unauthorized versions are "quite awful" and urges readers to purchase only the officially approved PDF editions from www.informit.com/taocp. Publishers will reportedly replace inferior versions with the approved PDF edition upon request.

TAOCP, first published in 1968, has been recognized for its foundational contributions to computer science, listed among the best physical science monographs of the 20th century. The series covers fundamental algorithms, seminumerical algorithms, and combinatorial algorithms, with ongoing volumes. Registered owners of the boxed sets can download collected indexes as complimentary PDFs.
