iPhone Air Review: 9 Months Living with Apple's Thinnest Phone

I've used the iPhone Air as my primary device for 9 months since its launch. The extreme thinness is startling at first — everyone reacts with a "whoa" — but that novelty fades into normalcy, much like going nose-blind to a scent. You sacrifice cameras and battery for this design, and I'm not convinced the trade-off is worth it long-term.

The 6.7-inch screen size is a highlight, hitting a sweet spot between the standard Pro and Pro Max models. It's large enough for media and typing without feeling unwieldy. However, the single 48 MP rear sensor is a genuine limitation. I miss the 5x telephoto lens for distant subjects, and the minimum focus distance struggles with close-ups. The camera plateau also rocks badly on flat surfaces.

The single bottom-firing speaker makes audio feel lopsided and limits max volume, a constant annoyance in noisy environments. Battery life started strong, easily outlasting my iPhone 15 Pro, but degraded noticeably by summer despite 96% health — whether from iOS regressions or increased cellular use, it's no champion.

Ultimately, I love this weird, compromised phone, but I wouldn't recommend it to most people. If novel design matters above all else, go for it; otherwise, the Pro models offer a far more complete experience.
