### Forgejo 16.0.3 RCE Vulnerability

Hacker News • September 10, 2026 at 11:57 AM ET

[×](/dev?tab=hacker-news)

A critical remote code execution vulnerability has been identified in Forgejo versions 16.0.3 and earlier. The issue affects the open-source Git hosting platform, which is a fork of Gitea. Security researchers have highlighted the severity of this flaw, which could allow attackers to execute arbitrary code on affected instances.

Forgejo, developed as a community-driven alternative to Gitea, has gained traction among self-hosted Git repository users. The vulnerability poses a significant risk to organizations running Forgejo servers, particularly those exposed to the internet.

Users are strongly advised to update to the latest version of Forgejo immediately. The development team has released patches addressing the RCE issue. Administrators who cannot upgrade right away should consider additional mitigations, such as restricting network access to vulnerable instances.

This vulnerability underscores the importance of keeping Git hosting platforms up to date. Organizations using Forgejo should review their security practices and ensure all dependencies are current.
