Family car-sharing frustrations led Mendel Greenberg to develop OurCar, a Flutter application solving gas cost allocation disputes. After struggling with complex math calculations for fuel usage, Greenberg identified a gap in family car management tools. His initial prototype tracked location, car status, and fuel consumption—addressing the daily friction points of shared vehicle ownership.

Built with a simple stack of Pocketbase and Flutter, the app took shape over one intensive week of development. Greenberg focused on core functionality: car availability tracking, trip logging, and fuel expense management. While agentic development tools were available, he opted for traditional methods, finding them more reliable for this particular project.

App store deployment proved challenging, particularly with Apple's iOS notarization requirements. Greenberg eventually paired his wife's phone to his developer account to simplify the process. Despite initial hurdles, OurCar successfully addressed the family's needs, demonstrating how personal problem-solving can sometimes yield practical solutions broader audiences might value.
