Dutch Police Car Stolen During Chase

A Dutch police chase turned embarrassingly chaotic this week when a suspect managed to steal the officers' own patrol car. The ordeal began when a 34-year-old man from Breda stole an ANWB vehicle after being confronted at a defense site near Gilze-Rijen air base. Police initially pursued the stolen ANWB vehicle but were forced to abandon the chase due to the suspect's reckless driving, which included using cycle paths. Officers switched to an unmarked car and eventually cornered the man at traffic lights in Breda-Noord.

The situation unraveled completely when the suspect crashed into the unmarked police vehicle and fled the scene. While officers were distracted helping a civilian whose car was being targeted by the thief, the man seized his opportunity and stole the responding officers' actual patrol car. This brazen move turned a standard pursuit into a jurisdictional nightmare, leaving officers without their primary mode of transport while a suspect drove off in a marked police vehicle.

The suspect, whose motive remains unknown, didn't stop there. While fleeing toward Etten-Leur in the stolen police car, he attempted to steal yet another vehicle from a driver who was still inside. Fortunately, that attempt failed. Police managed to apprehend the man and take him into custody, finally ending his spree of auto theft attempts. The incident serves as a rare and humiliating reminder of how quickly routine calls can spiral out of control.
