The issue stems from multiple factors: Anthropic reduced quotas during peak hours affecting 7% of users, ended a promotion doubling limits outside peak times on March 28, and potentially buggy prompt caching inflating costs 10-20x, as discovered by a reverse-engineering user. Downgrading to an older version mitigated the problem for some.
