Bonnie Tyler, born Gaynor Hopkins in a council house in Neath, died at 75 after emergency intestinal surgery in Portugal that left her in a coma.

Discovered by talent scout Roger Bell in a Swansea club, Tyler’s first charting single was "Lost in France" (1976), reaching number nine in the UK. She signed with RCA, changing her stage name from Sherene Davies to Bonnie Tyler after the label suggested the original sounded like a belly dancer.

Her signature track, "Total Eclipse of the Heart", was recorded as an eight‑minute version by songwriter Jim Steinman; utilizing a four‑minute radio edit, the song topped the UK charts for two weeks and the US for four weeks, making her the first Welsh artist to hit number one in America.

Tyler earned three Grammy nominations, represented the UK at Eurovision 2013, and her autobiography "Straight from the Heart" has been read worldwide. Her YouTube video has surpassed 1.3 billion views. She and husband Robert Sullivan own 22 homes, mainly between Portugal and Mumbles, Swansea.
