Amazon announced a 3.5% fuel and logistics surcharge on its fulfillment fees, kicking in on April 17 for U.S. and Canadian third‑party sellers. The charge follows a five‑week escalation of the Iran conflict, which has pushed Brent crude above $107 a barrel. Amazon says the extra fee helps offset the higher transportation costs rippling through the e‑commerce supply chain.

The surcharge is applied to the seller’s existing fulfillment fees rather than the product’s sale price, averaging about 17 cents per FBA unit. Amazon claims this rate sits below the levies imposed by UPS, FedEx and the U.S. Postal Service, which have all raised fuel fees since the war began. Brent futures rose more than 6 % on Thursday, reinforcing the cost pressure.

With roughly two million sellers relying on Amazon’s Fulfillment by Amazon service, the added 17‑cent per‑unit fee translates to a modest expense increase for most merchants. Amazon’s spokesperson Ashley Vanicek emphasized the surcharge remains lower than carrier alternatives and reaffirms the platform’s commitment to keeping selection broad and prices competitive. Sellers will see the extra charge reflected directly on their monthly invoices.
