While many fear AI will worsen jobs, unlike previous technological revolutions, AI has the potential to benefit both companies and workers. Historically, innovations like the PC, email, and smartphones increased company productivity but led to more work and stress for employees, as expectations outpaced technological improvements.

AI, however, offers a different promise: it not only speeds up tasks but also performs some of the work itself. This could free up employees' time. While initial adoption is causing some turmoil and blurring role boundaries, this is a typical reorganization phase. Economists predict a productivity J-curve, where output initially dips before rising.

McKinsey estimates AI could return about 30% of a knowledge worker's day by 2030. Instead of simply increasing output, this saved time could foster creativity, collaboration, and quality improvements, much like desktop publishing did in the 1990s. This shift could lead to more fulfilling work and a stronger sense of community in the workplace, ultimately proving beneficial for everyone.
