The May 2026 release 86Box v6.0 adds a suite of bug fixes, performance tweaks, and UI refinements. New audio options let users enable hard disk sounds, selectable per drive and sourced from three 3600 RPM models. A long‑awaited local switch now auto‑connects multiple instances across the same LAN, replacing manual VDE setups. It also restores floppy sounds and refreshes icons.

Serial and parallel ports receive major upgrades: printers become configurable, new DACs join the sound chain, and a Named Pipe device enables LapLink‑style high‑speed links. Serial passthrough now auto‑negotiates baud rates, supports Named Pipe on Linux/macOS, and adds a Windows virtual console that hooks a terminal to the emulated port. Networks can be password‑protected.

UI changes organize sprawling settings into tabbed pages, add searchable device selectors, and introduce toolbar buttons for fast‑forward emulation and instant screenshots. Video cards collapse into chipset groups with a Configure button, simplifying selection. Key bindings now apply system‑wide. The release also bundles Windows ARM64 builds, drops macOS 10.13 support, and includes an external mdsx component for Daemon Tools MDS v2/MDX images.
