Hardware & Software Engineering
A deep dive into a 1980s NASA hybrid revealed its unusual combination of TTL logic and a 8086 processor, while analysts scrutinized SPEC CPU2026 for introducing a new "SPECrate" metric that better measures multi-threaded throughput. The vintage computer autopsy highlighted the durability of through-hole components, whereas the benchmark critique focused on the suite's expanded data center workload relevance.
AI & Defense Sovereignty
A developer launched a local RAG agent designed to run offline on consumer hardware, contrasting with Italy's cancellation of a Boeing tanker order in favor of Airbus A330 MRTTs. The open-source tool prioritizes data privacy and local compute, while the €5bn defense shift underscores a NATO-aligned move toward European industrial supply chains.
