76ers and LeBron James
LeBron James is still adjusting to life in Philadelphia, but he logged a strong debut with 10 points and five assists. Embattled center Joel Embiid called himself an "easy target" after a report suggesting James had called him out was disputed. Broadcaster Mike Breen apologized Wednesday for his reaction to that story after James refuted it.
The Sixers are planning a shake-up, with sources telling ESPN that new-look starters will debut in Thursday's preseason game against the Nets. The team also received a setback when Hukporti was diagnosed with a torn Achilles, thinning an already fragile frontcourt. Philadelphia's trio even made a cameo on Abbott Elementary, playing on the show's embrace of local sports culture.
Pacers and Haliburton
Pacers guard Tyrese Haliburton returned from his Achilles injury, scoring seven points in 16 minutes of action. His comeback was greeted with considerable hype across the league.
Warriors and Blazers
Golden State's future rests partly on rookie Yaxel Lendeborg, the No. 11 pick whom the team hopes will become a key piece. In Portland, new owner Tom Dundon told season-ticket holders he intends to bring a championship to the Trail Blazers, despite the embattled start of his tenure.
League Business
The NBA and FIBA say they are pressing ahead with NBA Europe plans regardless of Euro League's position. Meanwhile, the Buss siblings have formally filed a case against Jeanie Buss over the sale of the family's remaining Lakers shares.
Preseason Action
The Rockets and Mavericks wrapped a trip to Macao, China, with scenes from the preseason slate highlighting the cross-continental exhibition.
