The **Toronto Maple Leafs** won the 2026 NHL Draft Lottery, securing the coveted No. 1 overall pick in a critical offseason for the franchise. After a 32-36-14 campaign that extended their 59-year championship drought, GM John Chayka now holds the top selection to rebuild a roster that has struggled during the Auston Matthews era.

With elite prospects like Penn State winger Gavin McKenna, Soo Greyhounds defenseman Chase Reid, and Swedish talent Ivar Stenberg available, the Maple Leafs will add a franchise cornerstone. The Vancouver Canucks, who entered with the best odds, slid to No. 3, a devastating blow after trading away star defenseman Quinn Hughes to acquire that exact pick.

This lottery win gives Chayka significant leverage in convincing Matthews to extend his contract beyond 2027.
